The City of Vista Public Works Department works behind the scenes preparing for the wet weather and storm season, including removing debris from 1,352 storm drains and strengthening road and park infrastructure before the annual winter rains hit. Internally, every year, City staff reviews emergency procedures and coordinates between departments to prepare for a series of possible significant weather events.

Free Sandbags

Sandbags help to divert or redirect water, mud and debris from your property and help prevent soil erosion. Free unfilled sandbags (10 per household) are available to Vista residents (*proof of city of Vista residency needed). The sandbags are available for pickup at the Public Works facility, located at 1165 E. Taylor Street, building A, during business hours:

Monday-Friday, 6:00 am-4:30 pm

Residents can purchase fill materials at local home centers and building supply stores.

Please note: if you live in the unincorporated Vista area, San Diego County has sandbags available for pickup at these locations. Sandbags are also available at these retail vendors.
