In 2018, the Vista City Council began the transition from citywide voting to district-based voting. The City is now divided into four (4) districts and only voters within a district will vote to elect their District City Council Member. The Mayor remains elected citywide. After each Census, the City is required to go through a re-districting process using the new census data to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. After community outreach and public input, the City Council adopted a new District map on March 8, 2022.
