Caltrans District 11 has been awarded a Clean CA grant to improve the landscaping at the SR78 Vista Village Interchange. Vista has been coordinating and working with Caltrans for the past year to submit grant applications.

Of the City’s six interchanges along the State Route 78 (SR78) corridor, Vista Village serves as the main gateway to the City of Vista and the primary access point to Historic Downtown Vista, Vista Village Shopping Center, and the Paseo Santa Fe corridor.  The District’s proposed landscape improvement project will enhance both the aesthetic and functional qualities of the corridor and help achieve multiple community goals such as reducing air pollution, supporting local economic development, improving public health, reducing GHG, and improving quality of life for Vistans.

The City of Vista has improved the local roads that lead to this interchange, including Hacienda Drive and Vista Village Drive.  Improvements include tree, shrub, and ground cover planting, and the placement of boulders, cobble, and other inert materials. In addition, the City, through its public art program “Kites Over Vista,” has placed sculptures and other art installations throughout the City.  Caltrans District 11’s improvement of this area will further beautify and benefit the traveling experience for Vistans, local businesses, visitors, and commuters.

The City intends to work in close coordination with, and provide our complete support, to Caltrans to ensure the successful completion of the Vista Village Interchange Landscape Improvement Project.  We look forward to the opportunity to partner with Caltrans on this and future projects along the SR78 corridor.
