The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Commission is to advise the City Council, City Manager, and the Recreation and Community Services Department on all matters concerning parks and recreation, and to assist in the coordination of all public agencies and civic organizations to provide sound parks and recreation planning and programming. The powers and duties of the Parks and Recreation Commission are set forth in Chapter 2.44 of the Vista Municipal Code.

There are seven regular members who serve three-year terms, and two ex-officio members. One member of the Commission shall be a member who has been recommended for appointment by the Vista Unified School District. Two ex-officio members of the Commission shall be Youth Representatives who shall be appointed by the Mayor with confirmation by the City Council.

Qualifications for Membership

  • Resident of the City of Vista
  • 18 years of age
  • Shall not be employed by the City or a member of the City Council.

Meetings

Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Morris B. Vance Community Room, 200 Civic Center Drive, Vista, CA 92084.

Agendas are posted 72 hours in advance of the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Minutes are presented to the Commission for approval at the next regular meeting, and are posted after they are approved.
